Lexington, Kentucky (USA) – World Barber Shop Adventures

Lexington is known for fast horses and big-time basketball players. On this visit to Kentucky, I visited the famous Rupp Arena, had a delicious lunch in a former synagogue, and visited the racetrack that is home to the 2020 Breeders’ Cup World Championships. Although it is one of those American cities that you think would be much bigger than it is, during the summer months Lexington slows down quite a bit. With all of the students off-campus, it made for a great time to visit the best barber shop in town, The Rooster’s Nest Barber Shop and Shave Parlour.

After finishing up a tasty lunch at Joe Bologna’s, I headed over to The Rooster’s Nest. Tyler, a young but talented barber, gave me a great haircut, beard trim, and neck shave. The shop is built for luxury as it sits within the high-energy Cha Cha’s where the smells are tasty, and the laughter is non-stop. Jason, the owner, comes from a long line of family barbers – two uncles and his grandfather worked the blade. It’s easy to tell because no detail is missed within this masterpiece of Americana (when you get your hair washed, keep your eyes open).

It was a great pleasure wrapping up the visit by visiting Keeneland, an internationally renowned racecourse and the Thoroughbred industry’s leading auction house. As you may know, I am a sports fanatic and a horse race lover. There may be no more excellent athlete on earth than these beautiful creatures. It was a treat to see some of them as they enjoyed their ‘off-season’ getting pampered in the stalls.
