This barber shop visit is to Pattaya, Thailand. Pattaya is electrified city about an hour from Bangkok. It’s vibrant as hell and nuts, with drinking and partying in hundreds of bars, go-go clubs, and adult entertainment. These two barber shop visits were great and very different. Both are top-notch professionals with a focus on different aspects of the barbering craft. This was my first time seeing a full head shave in person. With the head shave, neck shave, massage, and oil treatment, my buddy Chris really enjoyed his time in the chair. His barber had great style and fashion with a custom barber apron, his jewelry, everything matching perfectly, and these guys had some of the best tattoos I’ve ever seen.
My visit to a more authentic barber shop was very nice as well with just a beard trim, neck shave, massage, ear trim, nose trim, but no haircut. He was great with the clippers and scissors. We also checked out Muay Thai boxing, which is a combat sport of Thailand, that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. Muay Thai is now one of the most well-known and practiced martial arts in the world. It’s is known as the “Art of Eight Limbs” because it is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, and shins.
I love Thailand and I love the Thai people. I’ve been lucky enough to travel to the country six times now and every time it has been a great visit. Thailand has world-class health care, an improving infrastructure, and beautiful beaches. The Thai people are kind, confident, fun, and hilarious, always knowing how to make travelers feel welcome.
There continues to be an increase of foreigners making the wise decision to retire in Thailand. Pattaya is one of the main cities where this is happening. I don’t blame them with the tasty food, cheap massages, and some of the best sports bars on the planet.
