Visit Millennium Park
No trip to Chicago would be complete without a visit to Millennium Park. Located in the heart of downtown, the park is home to iconic attractions like Cloud Gate (aka “The Bean”), Crown Fountain, and the Lurie Garden. It’s also a great place to people-watch or grab a bite to eat from one of the many food trucks that line the park.
If you’re visiting during the summer months, don’t miss out on a chance to see a movie at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. Every Tuesday night from June through August, the park hosts free outdoor movie screenings. Past films have included classics like The Wizard of Oz and The Breakfast Club, as well as newer hits like Black Panther and Crazy Rich Asians.
Explore the Art Institute of Chicago
Founded in 1879, the Art Institute of Chicago is one of the oldest and largest art museums in the United States. housing more than 300,000 works of art across its five buildings. With so much to see, it can be overwhelming trying to decide what to look at first. If you only have time for a quick visit, make sure to check out some of the museum’s most iconic pieces, like American Gothic by Grant Wood and Nighthawks by Edward Hopper.
For something a little different, head over to the Modern Wing, which houses the museum’s collection of contemporary art. Here you’ll find works by artists like Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, and Louise Bourgeois. Admission to the Art Institute is free for Illinois residents every Thursday from 5 pm – 8 pm.
