Why The American Midwest Rocks

While the majority of tourists head to US coastal cities, like Los Angeles and New York, there’s a whole world in between. When you travel to the midwest, that’s where you’ll find the real America. It’s here you’ll discover the United States that you read about in books and watch in movies. It’s true to form.

In this post, we take a look at some of the reasons why you should pay a visit to the American Midwest. Check them out below:

It’s Home To Some Beautiful Architecture

The American Midwest is home to some of the country’s most impressive architecture. For instance, those heading to Chicago will be able to view the city’s stunning skyline overlooking Lake Michigan.

Louisville is another impressive location and has a well-preserved old town. There’s some interesting architecture here that you’ll enjoy if you like the all-American aesthetic.

The Winters Are Stunning

While it might get a little cold from time to time in the American Midwest, the winters in the region can be stunning. Deep snowfall blankets much of the terrain from December onward which is great for anyone looking for a winter wonderland experience but that doesn’t want to travel to Scandinavia or Russia

Top-Notch Music Festivals

If there’s one thing that the Midwest knows how to do well, it’s music festivals. The region has some of the best in the country. Topping this list is Summerfest in Milwaukee. It’s the biggest of its kind in the world and features a mix of contemporary mainstream acts alongside golden oldies.

If you’re looking for something a little different, you might want to head on out to Lollapalooza in Chicago. This festival looks for new talent and tries to catapult them to stardom. It’s likely you’ll see bands live here that go on to become world-famous. You can say that you saw them before anyone else.

Classic American Food

American food is arguably the best in the world. After going to a classic BBQ restaurant, you’re never left wanting more.

The Midwest is famous for its fried foods, Bloody Marys, and mac and cheese buns. However, when it comes to foods from this part of America, practically anything goes. Everything is designed for big stomachs. Portions are enormous, helping you keep going, no matter how active you are on your adventures.

The People Are Way Too Nice

Being a tourist or traveler in the Midwest is entirely different from being one in New York or Dallas. You’re not caught up in a cosmopolitan city. Instead, you’re part of a natural community that has grown up over many decades. People here welcome you with open arms and show a lot of kindness, even as strangers.

What’s interesting is that this “niceness” is actually something that researchers have proven. It’s not just anecdotal. Cambridge researchers, for instance, found that Midwesterners had the friendliest outlook on life of anyone in the country, which perhaps explains their positive reputation.

Sports Is A Lifestyle

Lastly, if you love sports, then the Midwest is the place to be. It’s a lifestyle here, and everyone has a team.
